Evening honors Assemblymember John Harabedian with the “Legislator of the Year” Award, Filmmaker Jivan Avetisyan with the “Advocacy in Cinema” Award, Texas Advocate Shevan Basmadjian with the “Steve Artinian Visionary Activist” Award, and California Armenian Schools with the “Gabriel Injejikian Educational Excellence” Award
ANCA-WR will present the Steve Artinian Visionary Activist Award—named in memory of lifelong community activist and former ANCA-WR Board Member Steve Artinian—to Dallas-based advocate Shevan Basmadjian, whose grassroots leadership has advanced Armenian Genocide education and civic engagement across Texas, from testimony at the State Capitol to statewide teacher-training programs reaching thousands of students.
The Armenian National Committee of America Western Region will present its “Advocacy in Cinema” Award to the Artsakh-raised filmmaker whose acclaimed features have carried the story of his homeland onto international screens despite considerable political pressure and censorship surrounding this subject matter.
The Armenian National Committee of America – Western Region will present its highest legislative honor to the only Assemblymember of Armenian descent serving in the California State Assembly, recognizing his leadership on the MENA Inclusion Act, his advocacy for Armenian Prisoners of War and the forcefully displaced and ethnically cleansed people of Artsakh.
