ANCA-WR Internship Program

The ANCA Western Region Internship Program is a selective part-time leadership program, which introduces college students and recent college graduates to all aspects of the public affairs arena. The program provides an opportunity for student leaders and activists to gain an in-depth understanding of the American political system, Armenian-American issues and advocacy efforts on the local, state and federal levels.

Interns will gain experience in non-profit management, government affairs, community organizing and education, communication, media, research and writing, and planning and executing events. In addition to individual and joint projects, interns will participate in workshops featuring a variety of guest speakers including public officials, ANCA Western Region leadership, and specialists.

General Requirements

  • Applicants must have a high school diploma
  • Complete 18 hours per week during the Spring and Fall sessions, at least 25 hours in the Summer including some evenings and weekends
  • Have a valid driver’s license (exceptions made in special circumstances)
  • Minimum age requirement for internship program: 18 years

Winter/Spring (2025)

  • Program Dates: September 15 – December 25, 2024

Summer (2024)

  • Program Dates: June 15 – August 26, 2024

Research & Writing Internship Requirements & Responsibilities:

  • Strong research and writing skills;
  • Some familiarity with academic databases;
  • Ability to assess media bias and cross-reference information;
  • Education: Coursework or major in political science, international relations, international or human rights law, political economy, and/or related fields;
  • Language: Familiarity with Russian, Armenian, Azeri, Turkish, and/or Farsi (preferred);
  • Detail-oriented, nuanced, and able to multitask with competing deadlines;
  • Research historical and contemporary issues and developments regarding Armenia and Artsakh, including geopolitics and conflict, international and human rights law, crimes against humanity and other violations, and genocide;
  • Write summaries, fact sheets, briefing documents, letters, and reports;
  • Monitor media and provide news updates to ANCA Western Region Staff and Board;
  • Fact-checking claims made by government officials in the US and abroad;
  • Attending relevant panels, events, and conferences and taking notes.

Government Affairs Internship Requirements & Responsibilities

  • Strong research, investigative, writing, communications, interpersonal, and data analysis skills;
  • Effective problem-solving skills;
  • Detail-oriented, nuanced, and able to multitask with competing deadlines;
  • Knowledge of or desire to learn more about the legislative policy process on all levels of government;
  • Familiarity with Google Suite, GIS, Microsoft Office;
  • Education: Coursework or major in political science, international relations, international or human rights law, political economy, and/or related fields.

Coalition & Community Development Internship Requirements & Responsibilities

  • Strong research, writing, and oratory skills;
  • Some familiarity with cultural issues and intercultural dialogue;
  • Interest and/or experience in public speaking and coalition building activities;
  • Language: Any additional language competencies are desirable but not required;
  • Detail-oriented, nuanced, and able to multitask with competing deadlines;
  • Research on community and advocacy groups and organizations across the Western United States;
  • Attend events and meetings with community and advocacy groups to build exciting and impactful relationships that advance the Armenian Cause;
  • Identify areas for collaboration between Armenian and non-Armenian communities and organizations.

Media & Communications Internship Requirements & Responsibilities

  • Familiarity with social media channels like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc. and social media trends;
  • Must possess an interest in writing, graphic design, video editing, and/or content creation;
  • Create striking and informative graphics for social media, banners, flyers and other channels and mediums using Canva and Adobe products;
  • Prepare email copy and design for event promotion, ANCA-WR newsletters, and trigger emails;
  • Propose content creation ideas for short form content (TikTok, Reels, YouTube Shorts), medium/long from (YouTube videos, promo), and video ads;
  • Perform daily tasks that relate to media and communications (contact media, write press releases and media advisories).
