LOS ANGELES, CA – Friends, supporters, and leaders of the Armenian National Committee ofAmerica - Western Region (ANCA-WR) joined together in Los Angeles to honor U.S. House champion on Armenian-American issues Brad Sherman (D-CA-32), as he continues his steadfast service in Congress. Congressman Sherman is the Democratic Vice Chair of the Congressional Armenian Caucus and a senior member of the influential House Foreign Affairs Committee. He has maintained strong ties to the ANCA for decades and consistently receives an A+ rating on the ANCA Congressional Report Card.
“Congressman Sharman has been an invaluable partner to the Armenian-American community – not just in words, but in action,” said ANCA-WR Board Chairman Oshin Harootoonian. “From the halls of the House Foreign Affairs Committee to the floor of Congress, Brad Sherman has stood with our people through some of our darkest hours. The ANCA-WR is proud to stand with him tonight, and we look forward to continuing this vital work together in the months and years ahead. Congressman Sherman’s role will prove pivotal as we press forward on issues that matter most to our community – holding Azerbaijan accountable for the genocidal ethnic cleansing of Artsakh’s Armenian population, securing the release of Armenian prisoners of war still being illegitimately held in Baku, enforcing Section 907 restrictions on U.S. military assistance to Azerbaijan, imposing Magnitsky sanctions on those responsible for war crimes,” added Harootoonian.
The evening, generously hosted by longtime active community leader Raffi Sarkissian, brought together a broad and energetic cross-section of the Armenian-American community in a demonstration of solidarity and shared purpose.
“I was pleased to open my home for this gathering with Congressman Sherman. The diversity and enthusiasm of those who joined us tonight speaks volumes about the depth of our community’s commitment,” said host Raffi Sarkissian. “It reflects not only our gratitude for the Congressman’s tireless work, but also a renewed dedication to the Armenian issues that demand our continued engagement in Washington.”
Speakers celebrated Congressman Sherman’s exceptional record of advocacy on core community priorities, including his decades-long championship of the recognition of the Armenian Genocide, justice for Artsakh, stronger U.S.-Armenia ties, and accountability for the Aliyev and Erdogan regimes. As a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee with over 28 years of service overseeing U.S. arms exports, Sherman has used his platform to push for law enforcement of Section 907 restrictions on U.S. assistance to Azerbaijan and to oppose weapons transfers that have been used against the Armenian people.
Congressman Sherman has been at the forefront of the Congressional response to Azerbaijan’s ethnic cleansing of Artsakh’s indigenous Armenian population, including the September 2023 military offensive that forced the displacement of over 150,000 Armenians from their ancestral homeland. He has called for emergency aid to Armenia and Artsakh, the right of return for displaced Armenians of Artsakh, the release of Armenian prisoners of war held in Baku, and Global Magnitsky Sanctions on those responsible for war crimes. At the 2025 Capitol Hill Armenian genocide observance, Sherman offered an unflinching indictment of Azerbaijan’s crimes, stating his commitment tot he day when the people of Artsakh can once again live in their homeland in peace and freedom.
