Armenians

With a larger community of Armenians living outside of the Republic of Armenia than inside of it, the diaspora’s role in the nation’s affairs is an uncertain one, with both diasporans and residents of Armenia wrestling with how much say the diasporans, who have funded most of the much needed improvement projects in the small nation, should have in forming policy.///Armenian-Americans, many of whom are supporters of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation or Dashnak party, protest outside of a meeting in which Armenia’s President Serzh Sarkisian is attempting to gain diasporan support for the Armenia-Turkey protocols. Many Armenians worried that the protocols, which were an attempt to normalize trade relations between Turkey and Armenia, would force the Armenians to go along with Turkey’s genocide denial in exchange for much needed economic gains.
