New to Politics – Anush Simonyan
This day has concluded my first week of the ANCA internship and I have to say I am enjoying it. It’s not as scary or intimidating as I thought it would be. I have learned a lot during the few days that I’ve been here. I got the chance to meet many wonderful people so far. The other interns seem very good at making the work assigned fun for everyone. Within a few days I learned how to write press releases and media reports. In fact, this morning I wrote my first media report. It was a rocky start at first to search and find different sources and gather relevant news relating to Armenia and ANCA but I’m sure I’ll get used to it and improve as I go along. I love the fact that I’m learning new things as I progress with my internship. The other interns have been very friendly and helpful to me in times of confusion. We converse with one another and help each other which I find to be very comforting knowing that we are not alone in this journey through the ANCA. I realized that the interns and I are very different in some of our interests. Most of the interns are political science majors or international relations and I find it very intriguing to talk to them about politics because there are many aspects of politics that I am not familiar with. My major being English, I did not feel the need to take the time to learn and familiarize myself with the political world which is something I have always regretted. This is one of the things I am hoping to remedy during this internship. And I can already say that I am more knowledgeable about politics than I was before I started this internship program.
