CA Genocide Education Action Alert!

July 12, 2016
The CA State Board of Education will make final decisions on the History-Social Science Curriculum Framework, which should include the Armenian Genocide this Thursday, July 14, 2016 and we need you in this last step to cross the finish line.
Background:   Starting October 2015, the Genocide Education Project, Assemblymember Adrin Nazarian and the ANCA-WR submitted specific proposals regarding language changes in the curriculum framework as it pertains to the teaching of the Armenian Genocide to the Department of Education’s Instructional Quality Commission (IQC).(Click here for submitted language changes)
The IQC has incorporated many of the changes, but not all.  Specifically, though agreed on during their March 2016 meeting, they have not included addition of language to the Eleventh Grade U.S. History section regarding the unprecedented humanitarian response to the Armenian Genocide, largely through the efforts of the first U.S. Congressionally sanctioned philanthropic organization: the Near East Relief campaign.
The IQC has now submitted their draft without this addition to the CA State Board of Education to be reviewed and voted on THIS THURSDAY, JULY 14.
We have until the end of the day this Wednesday, July 13th to submit public comments to urge them to strengthen the language regarding the Armenian Genocide and make sure future generations are taught about the Armenian Genocide in an accurate and comprehensive manner both in World History AND U.S. History classes.
Don’t wait for the next person to take action. We need the CA State Board of Education to hear from you, your family and friends NOW. It’s just one click!
