The Armenian National Committee of America – Western Region (ANCA-WR) is forging ahead with its “Centennial Activism and Beyond” Town Hall series. On the heels of recent successful town hall events and advocacy days in Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, Texas, and Utah, the organization has set its sights on the states of Washington and Oregon. The Seattle area Armenian American community will host the ANCA-WR on Saturday, October 3, at 6:00 p.m. at Holy Resurrection Armenian Apostolic Church located at 11505 Woodinville-Redmond Rd. NE, in Redmond, Washington. The following day, the Portland community opens its doors to the organization at St. Kevork Armenian Apostolic Church located at 9215 SE Church Street in Clackamas, Oregon.
“In this Centennial year of the Armenian Genocide, we have witnessed a rebirth and reaffirmation of the Armenian American community’s dedication to achieving justice and furthering the collective interests of our diverse communities and people. The wave of activism is infectious, and the ANCA-WR has implemented the town hall series in an effort to organize and re-energize our communities throughout the Western United States, while providing them with tools and resources to become more engaged in the democratic process,” stated ANCA-WR Executive Director Elen Asatryan. “We are confident that the upcoming town halls will have ripple effects for years to come and are excited about connecting and collaborating with the burgeoning communities in Seattle and Portland,” added Asatryan.
The meetings are led by ANCA-WR senior personnel and Executive Board members, who provide attendees with an overview of the organization, its priorities, and recent developments affecting Armenian-Americans, Armenia and Artsakh. Following those brief remarks, attendees have an opportunity to ask questions, raise concerns, make suggestions and most importantly learn about ways to become involved locally. Leading the Town Hall meetings in Washington and Portland are the ANCA-WR’s Community Outreach Coordinator, Simon Maghakyan and Chief Legislative Consultant, Haig Baghdassarian.
