ANCA-WR TO HONOR CONGRESSMAN ADAM SCHIFF WITH “ANC FREEDOM AWARD”

Los Angeles, CA – Congressman Adam Schiff (D-CA) will be the recipient of the “ANC Freedom Award” to be awarded at the Armenian National Committee of America – Western Region’s (ANCA-WR) Annual Banquet.The ANCA-WR Banquet is themost prestigious Armenian-American grassroots public affairs event held in the Western United States.

Past “ANC Freedom Award” recipients have included the Genocide Project, and the Grammy Award nominated rock musicians – System of a Down.

Congressman Schiff was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2000 and has been a strong advocate on issues important to the many Armenian-Americanvotersinthe29th CongressionalDistrict-whichincludes Glendale, Pasadena, Burbank and environs. He is the author of House Resolution 193, a bill which reaffirms support for the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crimeof Genocide and which specifically references the Armenian Genocide. Congressman Schiff serves on the House Judiciary Committee. The Judiciary Committee unanimously voted for H. Res. 193. The Congressman’s bill is presently waiting to be considered on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Mostrecently,CongressmanSchiffand Congressman George Radanovich (R-CA) introduced legislation that would allow states to assist ArmenianGenocidesurvivorsandtheir descendents to pursue personal insurance claims. Specifically, the “Armenian Victims Insurance Fairness Act,” would allow states to require that insurance companies open their Armenian Genocide era archives (1875-1923) and provide lists of policy holders from that time period.

Congressman Schiff presently serves on the House Judiciary Committee and the House International Relations Committee.
