The Armenian National Committee of America – Western Region Grassroots Conference has become a much anticipated event in the Western Region community and this year, the conference returns on October 23 to the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel in Century City, where it will serve as a prelude to the annual ANCA-WR Gala on Sunday, October 25.
The third iteration of the ANCA Grassroots Conference, which takes place biennially, will anchor its focus on the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide and tackle subjects that can spark discussion and empower the community to advance its activism toward the realization of the Armenian Cause, which marked a critical milestone this year.
With the monumental March for Justice, which united 166,000 community members on April 24 behind the cause for justice for the Armenian Genocide, the ANCA-WR decided that the ANCA Grassroots conference would, once again, become a nexus to address the advancement of issues and aspirations of the Armenian Nation. This year’s conference will once again bring together renowned academicians, political leaders, artists and activists who will discuss issues such as the challenges facing the Turkish-Armenian community as it emerges from the shrouds of oppression to become an integral part of Hai-Tahd.
The recent inroads made in the international arena, both on a judicial and political level will serve as a backdrop for a discussion about reparations and advances in that arena.
Federal, state and local officials from both sides of the aisle will also come together to discuss the changing political landscape of Armenian-American advocacy and activism.
At the same time, renowned authors and artists will discuss their experiences in advancing Armenian issues through the arts, as well the role of social media in heralding a movement that may bring together Armenians and non-Armenians under the banner of human rights advocacy and advancement of justice.
“This year’s conference will incorporate the successes of past years, while looking to build on its reputation as one of the most engaging, exciting and informative conferences on the West Coast,” said ANCA Grassroots Conference co-chairman Ara Khachatourian, who is also the editor of Asbarez Armenian Daily newspaper.
Specific panel topics and panelists will be announced in the coming weeks, and will not disappoint!
