The Armenian National Committee of America – Western Region (ANCA-WR) recently announced its “Centennial Activism and Beyond” Town Hall series and mini-Advocacy Days to be hosted throughout the Western United States. Las Vegas joins Houston and Phoenix as a host city for these meetings with its Town Hall scheduled for Sunday, March 8, at 1:30 p.m. at Saint Garabed Church located at 2054 E. Desert Inn Road in Las Vegas.
“We are eager to reconvene with our dedicated and highly-mobilized grassroots in Las Vegas on March 8. In addition to providing updates on both local and national ANCA initiatives, we will conduct a civic engagement workshop open to all those in attendance, which will provide resources for the development and cultivation of effective partnerships to further strengthen our grassroots’ collective civic, electoral and political voice,” remarked ANCA-WR Executive Director Elen Asatryan.
“With the ever-expanding Armenian-American population in Nevada, the ANCA-WR Town Hall meetings are an invaluable forum to discuss issues affecting our state’s Armenian-American communities and propose effective solutions for how we can work together to address them,” stated Jack Kassamanian chair of ANCA-Nevada. “I am confident that both our most seasoned local activists and those newest to our communities will come out in full-force as we all have much to learn from one another,” added Kassamanian.
“I look forward to meeting members of the Las Vegas Armenian community and congratulating them firsthand for recently securing permission to erect an Armenian Genocide memorial monument at one of the largest and most visited public parks in Nevada,” expressed ANCA-WR Coordinator of Community Development Simon Maghakyan.
The ANCA-WR Town Hall series was implemented to activate and engage Armenian American communities throughout the Western United States. Previous years’ town hall meetings have spanned the cities of Boise, Denver, Fresno, Houston, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, San Francisco and Seattle.
The meetings are led by ANCA-WR senior staff and Executive Board members who provide attendees with an overview of the organization and its priorities. After the presentation, community members have an opportunity to ask questions, discuss issues of concern, make recommendations, and learn about ways to get involved with ANCA efforts locally.
