7 Educators to be Honored at the 3rd Annual ANCA-WR Armenian Genocide Education Awards Luncheon

GLENDALE – The Armenian National Committee of America – Western Region’s Education Committee announced that it will be recognizing seven educators, from various public schools and universities, in the Western U.S., who have uniquely provided instruction and education about the Armenian Genocide in public schools of the Western Region.

These extraordinary educators will be recognized on March 23, 2019, 11am at the third annual ANCA-WR Armenian Genocide Education Luncheon, being held at De Luxe Banquet Hall, 237 E Olive Ave, Burbank, CA 91502.

“The Armenian Genocide Education Award Luncheon continuously reminds us of the important value that history has in our everyday lives. It allows the opportunity to acknowledge educators who have gone beyond the minimum requirements to provide opportunities for students to not only deepen their understanding of the history of the Armenian Genocide, but to also recognize the impacts of hate and intolerance. We truly appreciate nominations of these educators and truly look forward to the event,” said Education Committee Member and Luncheon Committee Chair Sedda Antekelian.

“The Armenian Genocide Education Legacy Award is only a small gesture of gratitude and appreciation towards an educator who has devoted her entire career to teach about crimes against humanity, especially the Armenian Genocide. From UCLA to Paris, London, Alberta, and Vanadzor, her work has inspired individuals of all ages,” said Education Committee member Armineh Bazikian of Dr. Rubina Peroomian.

As a reminder, the 2018 National Teacher of the Year Mandy Manning will be delivering the keynote address at the luncheon. Manning, an educator with 19 years of experience, has taught across the curriculum, worked with students of various grade levels, and has even taught in different countries, including Armenia and Japan. A special presentation will also be made by researcher and photographer Matthew Karanian, whose impressive new book The Armenian Highland: Western Armenia and The First Armenian Republic of 1918 will be unveiled and made available for purchase.
