Glendale, CA – The newly appointed Consul General of the Republic of Armenia in Los Angeles, Krikor Hovanessian, visited the Armenian National Committee-Western Region (ANC-WR) offices in Glendale on February 26th. Hovanessian was accompanied by Vice Consul General Mesrob Shaboyan and met with members of the ANC-WR Board as well as the ANC-WR Internship-Externship Program’s 2009 Spring Session interns. “The ANC welcomes Consul General Hovanessian to the ANC-WR offices,” said Pattyl Aposhian Kasparian, a member of the ANC-WR Board of Directors. “We look forward to keeping him abreast of our office’s programs and working with him to promote awareness about and encourage the civic engagement of the Armenian community in the United States,” she added. As the newly appointed representative of the Republic of Armenia, the Consul General will be working diligently to help build stronger ties between the United States and Armenia. This past month, the Consul General participated in the LA Kings Armenian Heritage Night at the Staples Center, a first of its kind event co-organized by the ANC-WR and LA Kings, which sought to raise awareness about Armenian American culture through sports. Only a few weeks into his term of office, Hovanessian looks forward to working closely with the ANC-WR to help broaden public understanding of the strong ties that bind the United States and Armenia.

The Armenian National Committee – Western Region is the largest and most influential Armenian American Grassroots advocacy organization in the Western United States. Working in coordination with a network of offices, chapters, and supporters throughout the Western United States and affiliated organizations around the country, the ANC-WR advances the concerns of the Armenian American community on a broad range of issues.
