1005134_10151704339596147_620673754_nGLENDALE—The Armenian National Committee of American-Western Region is now accepting applications for the Fall Internship Program. The deadline to submit applications is Friday, August 30, 2013, 5:00pm.  Interested individuals may apply online at www.ancawr.org/internship.

“Even if you’re not interesting in pursuing a political career, this program is a great way to learn about yourself through the process of giving back to the community,” stated 2013 summer intern Stephen Ghazikhanian.   “When I initially applied, I never thought I would be drafting project proposals, speaking in front of my city council members, preparing website content, while meeting and having the opportunity to network and work with such a diverse group of community leaders and members.  This experience has really allowed me to grow in more ways than I ever thought possible,” added Ghazikhanian.

As part of the 13 week program, interns will work directly with the Executive Director, ANCA-WR staff, and with the various committees that the ANCA-WR comprises and will gain experience in non-profit management, government affairs, community organizing and education, media relations, and planning and executing events.

In addition to individual and joint projects, interns will participate in workshops featuring a variety of guest speakers including public officials, ANCA leadership, and specialists from the community. In successfully completing all internship program requirements, participants may receive school credit.

“During my time as an ANCA-WR intern, my favorite components were learning about governmental proceedings and meeting many community leaders. The people I met through this program made me realize I was directly making a difference in the community while also learning the ropes of community organizing,” noted current intern Marissa Bazikian.

Applicants must be between the ages of 17 and 23 and be able to dedicate 20 hours per week to the program. The 2013 Fall Session will commence on September 9, 2013 and will run through  December 6, 2013.  Applications must be submitted electronically by Friday, August 30, 2013, 5:00pm to be considered.

Established in Summer 2006, the ANCA Western Region Internship Program is a selective part-time leadership program, which introduces high school seniors, college students, and recent college graduates to all aspects of the public affairs arena. The program provides an opportunity for student leaders and activists to gain an in-depth understanding of the American political system, Armenian-American issues and advocacy efforts on the local, state and federal levels.

The Armenian National Committee of America-Western Region is the largest and most influential Armenian American grassroots advocacy organization in the Western United States. Working in coordination with a network of offices, chapters, and supporters throughout the Western United States and affiliated organizations around the country, the ANCA-WR advances the concerns of the Armenian American community on a broad range of issues.
