May 11, 2015

LOS ANGELES—On Saturday, the Armenian National Committee of America – Western Region (ANCA-WR) announced its endorsement of Carolyn Ramsay for the Los Angeles City Council District 4 Elections.

“We are pleased to give our full support and endorsement to Carolyn Ramsay IMG_0962.JPGas she shares in our vision of advancing the Armenian Cause and serving the varied needs of the diverse Armenian-American community in the 4th City District,” commented ANCA-WR Executive Director Elen Asatryan. “We urge Armenian Americans to exercise their right to vote on May 19th, helping elect those candidates who are committed to addressing the important issues concerning our community and working closely with us in moving Los Angeles forward,” added Asatryan.

The decision to endorse Ramsay came after careful review of candidates’ track records and subsequent interviews and meetings with them during the Primary Elections and most recently for the General Elections.    ANCA Western Region along with ANCA East San Fernando Valley Chair Levon Baronian and ANCA Hollywood Co-Chair Lara Yeretsian held a final meeting with Ramsay on Thursday, May 7th during which time Ramsay conveyed her sincere devotion to making the Armenian community and Armenian small businesses an equal partner in the future of Los Angeles, her eagerness to assist and work with Armenian community based organizations, and her commitment to hire staff who will be able to provide the much needed constituent services to the under-served segment of the Armenian-American community with language barriers.

“I’m thrilled to have the endorsement of the Armenian National Committee of America – Western Region,” said Carolyn Ramsay. “I look forward to working with our diverse Armenian communities to ensure we’re helping to expand the middle class, supporting local family-run businesses, fixing our streets, and protecting the character of our neighborhoods. I’m committed to bringing on more Armenian staff who speak multiple languages and can work more closely with our neighborhoods on delivering city services,” she added.

“ANCA East San Fernando Valley chapter believes Carolyn is the right person to represent our large community in the Sherman Oaks area and that she will follow through with her promises to help our organizations continue to provide opportunities and services to our local youth and community as a whole,” stated ANCA East San Fernando Valley Chair Levon Baronian.

“We see Carolyn Ramsay as a candidate who is committed to promoting the interests of the Armenian community in the 4th district.  We look forward to forging ahead together into a better future for our district as a whole,” remarked ANCA Hollywood Co-Chair Lara Yeretsian.

Carolyn Ramsay has more than 15 years of experience bringing residents and small businesses together to hold city departments accountable to our neighborhoods. Her top endorsements include Mayor Eric Garcetti, Councilmember Paul Krekorian, and our local Firefighters and Police Officers.

As our Councilmember, Carolyn will focus on a Neighborhoods First agenda: repairing our streets and infrastructure, delivering responsible and transparent budgets, protecting the character of our neighborhoods, and stopping unwanted development.

Carolyn lives with her family in the Wilshire Square neighborhood, where she served as president of the neighborhood association and helped win historic preservation protections. Carolyn has also served our neighborhoods as the local program director for the Trust for Public Land and as a staffer to our local council office.

The ANCA Western Region had also previously endorsed Bennett Kayser for the Los Angeles Unified School District 5 race and encourages the community to vote for all of the organization’s endorsed candidates.

ANCA-WR endorsed candidates demonstrate notable support for issues of importance to the Armenian American community, including supporting resolutions and bills recognizing the Armenian Genocide and Artsakh, mandating Armenian Genocide Education Curriculum in public schools that also encompasses the efforts of the Near East Relief, the United States’ first congressionally sanctioned non-governmental organization, and how it mobilized the humanitarianism and philanthropy of the American People to save and sustain hundreds and thousands of Armenians during the Armenian Genocide of 1915-1923, and in its immediate aftermath until 1930.

The 2015 Los Angeles General Municipal Elections will take place on May 19, 2015. In order to vote, you must be registered. The ANCA-WR urges community members who are U.S. citizens and over the age of 18 not yet registered to vote, to register by visiting www.hyevotes.org or calling 818.806.8683.
