FILM SCREENING: Khachaturian

The Armenian National Committee of America-San Francisco Chapter cordially invites you to the film screening of Khachaturian.

Filmed in 2004, Peter Rosen’s award-winning documentary pays tribute to famed Armenian composer Aram Khachaturian, who was lauded for his patriotic music before being denounced in the late 1940s (along with Shostakovich and Prokofiev) for anti-Soviet “formalism.” Archival film footage, interviews with family members, and readings by Eric Bogosian from Khachaturian’s memoirs are featured. Musical segments include excerpts from the ballets “Spartacus” and “Gaynah” (with its memorable “Saber Dance”), and Mstislav Rostropovich performs “Cello Rhapsody.”

The screening will take place on the lower level in the Koret Auditorium.

The event is free and open to the public.
